As a project manager for the Wellington City Council I worked within a cross-functional team to deliver thoughtful solutions to complex problems. I led our team to define problems, ideate solutions and apply iterative prototyping techniques. This work is enabling the democracy services team to track and publish the resolutions passed by council and present them to the public in an easily navigable and searchable format.As a programme manager I was responsible for delivery of the software components which would enable the team to upgrade our business units and better serve our community. This programme of work was scoped to all customer facing services from dog registrations through to rates and licensing. The programme involved numerous stakeholders at all levels. I actively maintained relationships refined the programme vision and contributed to an operations strategy which would enable the team to produce high quality outcomes for the people of Wellington.

As a contractor I’ve built close relationships with various clients. Fostering trust, gathering project requirements, designing solutions, building road maps and executing deliverables have all been large aspects of this varied role. My primary contract was as the lead engineer for Powerswitch; a calculation tool for New Zealanders to determine their best power plan. This project involved close collaboration with multiple stakeholders, an in-house team, designers, external contractors and government agencies. I would often act as a conduit between all parties, ensuring we all understood the requirements and risks.

Quill Content was a start up which leverages in-house software to assist a team of translators to produce large amounts of product copy in a number of different languages. I worked collaboratively with designers, product owners and engineers to plan and produce software for the translation team. I worked as liaison between various teams and managed expectations while ensuring projects were scoped and information was correctly relayed back to all involved.

3months was a development agency where I was a lead engineer and development team manager. As the team development manager I was responsible for ensuring engineers were happy in their role, providing career development guidance, having one on one catch ups and working as liaison between the engineering team and management. My role involved engaging with clients, building close working relationships in an agile environment, scoping requirements, resolving technical constraints and ensuring projects were deliverable on time and on budget. I would architect technical solutions and begin designing and building a framework which the team as a whole could easily work within. I would also teach junior developers and assist in code reviews, sprint planning and retrospectives.

At Uprise Digital I was given full autonomy to design and develop a number of WordPress sites. I would work directly with clients, learning about their business and digital needs. I would then design and propose a series of solutions which I would then develop to full completion.
