As a private tutor I take on clients who require additional educational support either for themselves or for their children. As I am self employed I am responsible for the process from initial engagement, needs assessment and service delivery. I tutor students from the age of 5 through to university level and postgraduate education. Many of my students are working towards a specific educational goal such as an assignment or 11+/7+/GCSE/A level and university exams, whilst others require extra support with completing homework or a regular opportunity for clarification on what they are currently learning. In building my client base alongside university, I have found time management to be critical. Crucially this job has taught me the importance of managing client expectations regarding what is realistic, reasonable and achievable.

My role at Bridgeplan is as a business consultant. I have been involved in strategic business planning and development, regularly engaging in director/managers meetings to offer my advice and input, and I have also engaged with clients to ensure that their needs are being met. During the COVID-19 pandemic I have been consulted upon with regard to adapting and updating business plans and processes to help navigate the difficulties presented by the pandemic, and the financial planning associated with this.

During my years as a medical student I have progressively been gaining an increasing amount of clinical responsibility. Now, in my final year of studies, although I am still closely supervised until I am fully qualified, I am trusted to perform multiple duties and report back to seniors. I have been clerking patients, and assessing their immediate and long term needs. As part of my placements I am continually assessed on communication, professionalism, clinical knowledge and practical competencies, for which I have gained university awarded prizes. Working as part of the team, I am regularly involved in discussions where I am expected to suggest my clinical evaluations of patients and their current situation, ideal investigative next steps and formulate management plans. Whilst on placement I am exposed to a number of high stress situations where I have learned to remain calm under pressure, utilise members of the multidisciplinary team and offer support and assistance where required.

I was headhunted to ultimately take on a role advising the robotics process automation team at Babylon from a medical perspective. My knowledge and experiences working in the medical field on placement and in paid roles across the NHS were utilised in helping the team navigate through NHS systems and processes. I was instrumental to providing an insight into how these could be made more efficient and the impact these had on the front end for clients, patients and employees. Many of the projects I worked on became part of the standard operating procedures. In my short yet fruitful time at Babylon I was exposed to a variety of aspects of growing a business from a start up, such as streamlining operational efficiencies and the opportunities for the use of tech/AI in business. This role sparked my research interest in the field of AI in healthcare and business. I left this role to continue my university medical studies.

I provided administrative support to a team of health visitors, using SystmOne to update patient records, access staff diaries, book appointments, and attach letters/scanned documents to patient records. I also used Skype for business and Outlook to arrange room bookings and meetings. I would be required to patients and other healthcare professionals on the phone.

I provided support for people living with mental and physical disabilities, learning difficulties, and mental health conditions. I provided this care in the person’s home, community, hospital, and activity centres.I was subsequently selected to join a team specialising in clients who demonstrate challenging behaviour, and help SEN children with improving their confidence and competing their homework. My role here gave me invaluable insight into an aspect of health and social care that is not provided by my degree, and the experiences gained working my clients in these roles have helped shape my current clinical practice and research efforts.

Whilst I lived abroad in NZ, I initially started out in a part-time role at Amazon, a national surf and skate clothing and accessories retailer. Quickly, I was offered a full-time position working alongside brands that we sold such as Levis, Wrangler, Jansport, and Oakley. I would regularly meet with brand representatives to ensure that we were stocking their latest products and marketing them appropriately, feeding this information back to regional and store level managers and visual merchandisers. I would look at the analyses of key performance indicators and customer feedback to ensure that we were meeting the needs of both our brands and our customer base. I left this role to return to the UK to continue my education.
