Since completing my studies in Mechanical Engineering and Management at Liverpool John Moores University, I have become a Management Graduate with Great Western Railway (GWR – a FirstGroup franchise) based at Bristol St Phillips Marsh depot. Since a very young age I have been fascinated by the railways and how they operate – taking particular interest in traction and rolling stock. I grew up in Mid Wales very near to the Cambrian line which solely runs class 158 DMUs, and to be able to work with them directly now with GWR is quite niche. Since commencing my graduate scheme in September 2021 I have learnt so much about rolling stock and the engineering side of the railway. I have gained shop floor competencies in rolling stock examinations and repairs, had experience in production management and general safety elements of depot life. I have been exposed to design consultancy work, and had the chance to appreciate the operational side of the railway.
