BuildX is a design-build-develop B Corporation incorporated in Nairobi, Kenya. We leverage our capabilities in architecture, engineering and construction to identify and create real estate projects which set radically better examples for social and environmental impact. My role as technical project consultant is a combination of advising on all aspects of timber design and delivery as well as directly training the carpentry team to deliver the projects.Mainly focusing on the “Rewildings” a project nestled amidst the historic tea fields and indigenous forests of Tigoni, Kenya, a pioneering community, residential, and conservation development. The unique project showcases the potential of timber construction in East Africa to create climate-positive spaces that are in harmony with nature. A role that has been part funded by Gatsbys Africa I work directly with architecture and engineering teams to advise on efficient timber design and lead the fabrication and construction of the timber structures. Working with graduates from Builder an organisation that empowers women through construction, equipping women in Kenya with accredited construction skills leading to greater financial prosperity, I will up-skill and train 20 plus women in pre-fab timber construction methods managing all aspects of pre-fab and on-site construction.

Working with clients, architects and engineers at the highest level, XYLOTEK connects digital design and fabrication techniques with capability in practical delivery, driven by a passionate understanding of the complexities of wood and its potential to improve the built environment.Leading the sales team it is my responsibility to deliver the financial targets set out in the company’s business plan.My role involves managing a team of personal to aid with the cost estimating and writing of project bids, making new and building relationships with stakeholders, constructing and maintaining a CRM system and reporting KPI’s to the board of directors, negotiating terms and contracts and organising effective handovers to the operations team.Over the course of my employment I have grew the annual gross revenue from below £1m in 2021 to a confirmed sold contract value of approx. £10m in 2023.

As project Manager it was my responsibility to ensure the smooth delivery of projects, this included the coordination of internal and external design teams making sure that the design was considered from a fabrication and installation point of view, controlling budgets and reporting project progress to the operations and finance manager, procurement of materials and consultants and negotiating prices and contracts, programming the project schedule, identifying critical path items and managing resources required to deliver the project.

Course Tutor for the AA’s MArch/MSc Design + Make programme. Working closelywith the programme’s directors and students, I am responsible for an integrated teaching method - providing technical design clinics, fabrication techniques workshops, project management knowledge and craft theory in order to enable the realisation of experimental architectural constructs.
