In August 2023, the local football club to me East Thurrock United were liquidated overnight without warning. We started as a group of volunteers who had helped the old club on match days but never been involved in the day to day running or decision making positions. From our very first face to face meeting at the end of September it was clear that we all had the same goals in mind, to honour the traditions of the old club as much as possible in terms of team colours and acknowledging the roots of the club but to ensure that what we offered would be 100% fan owned, democratic, transparent and sustainable. Using the models of clubs like Lewes to AFC Wimbledon as blueprints, work was underway to build a Community Benefit Society to protect our 100% fan ownership.We set what we believed would be an ambitious ownership target of 100 by our first game, 22 days after we launched, we had reached 100 owners. Before we have even played our first game in July 2024 we have passed 200 owners.Democracy being one of our core beliefs and our ethos has seen our fans decide via voting on our club badge and indeed the location of our home pitch. The design of kit, away colours and charity partners will also be decided by the fan owners at our next monthly owners meetings. I worked for three Members of the European Parliament, covering the East of England.Responsibilities Include:- Dealing with all media enquires on a local, national and international level- Building and designing a weekly newsletter- Video recording and editing, including InDesign, PremierPro and Photoshop- Designed and delivered campaign training across the county to prepare individuals and groups for electionsAchievements Include:- Organised several regional events attended by between 500 - 1000- Built regular guest appearances on county radio each month for MEPs- Ran the 2016 Thurrock Local Election Campaign resulting in the largest vote share of any party
