Lead Developer
Lead developer of the OpenSolver add-in, which enables open-source optimization within Microsoft Excel (230,000+ downloads) and Google Sheets (13,000 weekly active users). OpenSolver provides the following features: - OpenSolver offers a range of solvers for use in Excel, including the excellent, open-source, COIN-OR CBC optimization engine which can quickly solve large linear and integer problems. - Compatible with your existing Solver models, so there is no need to change your spreadsheets - No artificial limits on the size of problem you can solve - OpenSolver is free, open source software.OpenSolver for Excel is primary written in VBA, with additional libraries in C/C++/Objective-C. OpenSolver for Google Sheets is written in Google Apps Script (a subset of JavaScript)See opensolver.org for more details.
Research Assistant
Primary developer for OpenSolver, an open source Solver-compatible optimization engine for Microsoft Excel that integrates with many linear and non-linear optimizers. More info at www.opensolver.orgKey contributions:- work on integrating NEOS cloud-based solvers was completed- interface to NOMAD non-linear solver refined and released- development and porting of OpenSolver to Excel 2011 on Mac OSX- full integration with non-linear solvers introduced. A parser was written to convert the Excel spreadsheet model into .nl files

Software Engineering Intern
I worked in the Related Entities team, who are responsible for suggestions within Google's Knowledge Graph. Given a seed entity (e.g. an actor) we wish to return a ranked list of the most relevant entities to the seed (e.g. their movies in order of importance).During my internship I developed a system for collecting and integrating human feedback into the Related Entities service. This consisted of two main elements:- Design of a system for collecting evaluation data from a pool of distributed workers (crowd-sourced human input).- Creation of a procedure for improving the rankings provided by the Related Entities service using the collected data. Initially a simple search procedure was used to find improvements, but a mixed-integer optimization approach replaced this later on.This implementation delivered significant improvements to the quality of the Related Entities service.
