I graduated from the University of Exeter in July 2024 with First-Class Honours in BA History. Most recently I completed a 12-week volunteer internship with the Borgen Project, an American-based NGO focused on advocating global poverty-reduction initiatives. Tasks I completed included successfully organising a personal fundraising campaign, researching contemporary issues like period poverty for BP articles, and lobbying local MPs to support an increase in the Official Development Assistance Budget. The internship introduced me to both the administrative work associated with NGOs and international charities, as well as the work that can be achieved through active lobbying. I look forward to searching for a further role within an NGO or political organisation. I have previously gained experience in a sales position at Exmoor Caviar as well as hospitality roles for Greene King Pubs Ltd and Fullers Smith & Turner. Such roles have allowed me to build a solid base of experience in different sectors. Whilst both opportunities presented a public-facing role in which customer interaction was key, the job at Exmoor Caviar in particular gave an insight into the sales world and the importance of nurturing relationships with clients. The role similarly forced me into adapting sales techniques and promoting the product in different ways to attract new customers. Furthermore, being a part of the University of Exeter's radio station, Xpression FM, I have gained skills within a media-focused environment. With a strong emphasis on research, fact-checking, and a fast-paced series of commentaries or reports, this introduction to broadcasting has allowed me to expand on qualities I have gained from my degree, whilst simultaneously gaining experience in a new sector.
