Research and Development, along with assisting Medical Device companies in formulating polymers for their application.

Began a consulting company, which has had tremendous success assisting physicians in the process of taking concepts to products. Using my background in chemistry, I have developed a new type of sunscreen product that is now a patent pending concept; and tissue engineering a topical ointment for wound healing to reduce scar formation; along with consulting on polymer and coating selection for products. To date have: 2 patents pending; Phase I & II clinicals written (First draft of Phase II) and 1 run; FDA submissions pending.

Start-up company; create polymer coatings that were chemically bonded to metal, significantly better than those currently on the market (target product was drug delivery coating for Cardiovascular Stent)

Given the opportunity to manage new development projects and R & D. Projects include: many catheter projects including an Antimicrobial Coated Multilumen Central Venous Catheter (developed coating); Polymer-cladded Hydrophilic Guidewires and Urethral Stents. To date, have written and submitted 3, 510K’s for FDA evaluation, along with Preclinical and Phase III clinical trials.

Managed the Polymer Department with an annual budget of approximately $800,000. We developed polymers, evaluated resorbable polymers and surface modified polymers for use in heart valves, vascular grafts and indwelling catheters. This research resulted in several patents that involved surface modified polymers for improved blood compatibility. Consulted with sister companies: Intermedics Pacemakers - Recommended a replacement for Pellethane lead insulation; Intermedics Orthopedics - Recommended surface treatment to reduce friction of knee prosthesis.
