Growing up, I was always disassembling anything I could get my hands on. Whether it was our broken CRT television, the toy from my Happy Meal, or cat carrier, I was at my happiest when I could tear into something and find out how it was made. Some of my favorite childhood memories involve spending hours in my grandmother's old shed, figuring out how each discarded tool was meant to work.On the surface, it might not make sense for someone so "mechanically minded" to have gone in for a B.S. in Writing, but let me assure you: it's exactly the same.As a Writing student, I spent all my time disassembling stories, sentences, and words. Communication -- creative, academic, or professional -- isn't random. Anyone can string together words, but choosing the right words? That comes down to how many sentences you've taken apart.In my current position as a copywriter, I get to do much the same thing. Finding creative solutions for clients means looking at what's working and figuring out why. Once you know that, you can go anywhere.In any position I hold, I know that my drive for learning, problem solving, and analysis will be the strongest tool in my toolbox.
