The Sankofa Garden is a non-profit community healing garden, located in the San Pablo Avenue Corridor of West Oakland by the California Hotel, affordable housing for families and seniors, and the adjacent houseless community. The project is spearheaded by UC Berkeley CED students (for design and layout) and Laney College students (for construction).• Interviewed local residents on their experiences and led stakeholder meetings to understand and create for the neighborhood’s needs• Self-taught Rhino software to design modular and multipurpose kitchen space that exceeds Americans with Disabilities Act requirements • Mentored and worked alongside 15+ local high school students interested in design and higher education, meeting biweekly• Coordinated internal and external communications for the project team, including Miro boards, Google Drive, and Trello• Presented complete design updates to clients, community members, and instructors 4x during the semester
