I enjoy connecting with people from different cultures and backgrounds because it leaves me in awe of how beautifully diverse the world is. Speaking the native tongue of communities can deepen that connection. Currently, I’m learning Spanish, Arabic, and Persian. Learning these words and phrases makes me think about how I communicate in my native language, English, day to day. What words or phrases in a language perfectly describe a situation but have no equivalent in English? What words or phrases have a deeper origin behind them but I take for granted?Language learning is why I’m a firm believer in the power of words and how they are placed together. This is why I like to rephrase sentences that give the same message but prompt a different feeling. I want to use words intentionally to advocate for environmental justice by working in environmental law/policy. I’m open to entry-level positions in both the environmental science/sustainability and law field.
