About Jackie Dobson

Jacqueline Dobson works with individuals to develop easy-living spaces that support them now and through the years. Whether being proactive and designing for the future, or experiencing ongoing, new mobility or other changes due to a short or long-term cause, injury, or age… or none of the above, the designs and products are tailored specifically to that individual. A background in occupational therapy gives her an understanding of the potential related but hidden issues, medical & functional factors of a specific diagnosis. Having worked in a National Spinal Cord Injury Program, Parkinson's Program, neurology, orthopedics, and more, she excels in assisting individuals with medically complex conditions. With a product data base that has been growing for over 35 years, and attention to small product details, she is able to integrate space design, with durable medical equipment, unique or off-the-shelf products, and fixtures to match one's needs and wishes. Human Factors:The goal is for the environment to fit the individual – not for the individual to try to fit the environment. Human factors, ergonomics, kinesthetics, strengths, tone, senses, cognition, memory, learning skills, medical concerns, are just a few of the considerations that go into the space design and product selections.Identifying a product can sometimes save a homeowner thousands of dollars. Moving forward can include space design and specifications for a custom bathroom, to whole house, garage conversions, or new addition details. Scaled drawings and a documented scope of work enables the homeowner to get comparable bids. Blueprint reviews can help an architect develop a truly accessible space since a difference of 3” can give a resident an easy day, or one filled repeatedly with minor frustrations. Clients include:• Individuals who want to maximize and continue their independence and maintain their autonomy.• Individuals returning home from the hospital or rehab.• Pro-active individuals who want to develop an easy-living home to remain in their own home or community for their lifespan* Property owners who want to make a tenant’s unit more accessible• Attorneys, Life Care Planners & insurance companies• Architects, contractors & othersSpecialty: CUSTOMIZATION, customization, customization – It is all about the individual - be it through access design details or product selections.

Listed skills include Renovation, Residential Homes, Interior Design, Public Speaking, and 9 others.

Combining over 25 years of experience exclusively in residential access design with a medical background in occupational therapy allows me to offer homeowners and others a very unique service to customize their homes for their very specific needs. Functional task analysis, knowledge of primary and secondary issues with various medical diagnosis', medical, durable medical, mainstream and hard-to find items leads to a very comprehensive evaluation, design, product and fixture recommendations. The assembly of a team that can include a contractor specializing in access construction, architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, allows me to offer homeowners and property managers a unique service that assures that the access modifications or construction meets the very specific needs of the individual and family.Work has included work with an international agency educating the public and private sectors about accessible and universal design, as a speaker at various conferences and for small groups, and as a member of a 6-person team rewriting portions of the state access regulations. Projects also include blueprint reviews for multi-unit buildings, product reviews and new product design.
