Jackie Shapiro has been working as a volunteer in the NGO community of the United Nations since 1996. She has chaired the NGO Committee on the Status of Women, the NGO Committee for UNIFEM, the UNA-USA Board and was a member of the Executive Committee of the NGO-DPI Executive Committee for eight years, including serving as Vice Chair.Jackie is the main ECOSOC representative for PACT, Protect All Children from Trafficking. She is a member of the Executive Committees of CSTIP, the NGO Committee to Stop Trafficking in Persons and of the Working Group to End Homelessness. She is also a UN representative of Soroptimist International, a worldwide organization dedicated to empowering women and girls through education and training.Jackie was the founding Chair of the Board of Girl Be Heard, an organization that mentors young women from the five boroughs with an interest in theatre arts to become fierce advocates for youth voices to promote gender and racial equality worldwide.Jackie was Chair of the Board of ECPAT-USA (now PACT), the leading organization in the United States working to end the commercial sexual exploitation of children.
