My Job? Living in Dakar, Senegal, I decided to dive into a personal project that combined my love for watercolor art, nostalgia, and travel. The goal? Craft three Christmas card designs that tell a story, blending Western holiday themes with iconic scenes from Senegal, catering to expats while respecting the local culture. The catch? Navigating Dakar to find a reliable yet affordable printing company. My Approach? Picture this: Santa hanging out with a wooden fishing boat (pirogue), a Senegal goat (sacrificial mutton), and the mighty baobab tree. Each piece wasn't just a card; it was a tiny tale of Christmas in Senegal. I brought these scenes to life on 300gsm matt silk cards—luxurious to the touch. On the front, watercolor magic; on the back, a quick story explaining the cultural twist. Surprisingly, the cards gained attention without much marketing—just a passion project. The Impact? Here's the exciting part. Those three designs struck a chord, selling a total of 220 cards—150 pre-orders—and flying off the shelves within two weeks. No big marketing strategy, just genuine interest. Now, there's a buzz for more designs and even requests for different souvenirs beyond cards. It's proof that sometimes, when you follow your passion, unexpected doors open. This little project not only added some holiday cheer but also opened doors to more creative adventures ahead.

Pixel Punk Creative, my design studio, has become a go-to hub for small business startups seeking a distinctive visual identity that sets them apart and sticks in the minds of their audience. My role? Well, among other things, I'm the go-to person for crafting logos and accompanying visual elements that shape the unique brand identity of each business. It's not just about creating a design; it's about establishing a connection with the target audience and visually narrating the story of the business through colors, typography, images, and graphics. My approach? I take a deep dive into each business, engaging the owners in meaningful conversations about why they started, who they aim to help, the story and passion behind their venture, and any visual ideas they might already have in mind for their branding. These insights become the building blocks that seamlessly come together to form a comprehensive brand package. The impact? Collaborating closely with each client for final approval, I carefully select supporting colors and fonts, design the main logo and variations, and create a range of elements including social media content templates, product mock-ups, pattern designs, and any other supporting visuals required. The end result is a visual representation that not only tells the unique story of each business but also empowers them to establish a professional presence, attract clients, and build a stellar reputation as industry leaders.

  • Dakar Women'S Group
    Communications Manager And Graphic Designer
    Dakar Women'S Group Oct 2022 - Oct 2023
    Dakar Region, Senegal
I joined the Executive Committee (EC) of the Dakar Women’s Group (DWG) as the Communications Manager, bringing my creative and design skills to the local non-profit scene. My role?I took charge of enhancing DWG's visibility and expanding its reach to a broader audience. We aimed to generate more interest in DWG's fundraising events, meetup nights, donation drives, and sponsorship campaigns. Ultimately, we aimed to boost ticket sales, build a larger community, and generate sponsorship leads to support local organizations. My approach?Working closely with the DWG President and EC Members, I designed visually striking campaigns for fundraising events, incl. crafting event posters, tickets, social media ads, posts, and website pages. Managing up to 5 social media accounts, I played a key role in overseeing an online art auction with all proceeds going to charity. To increase engagement, I attended events, streamed them live on social media, and ensured the website stayed up-to-date with upcoming events, news, photos, and new member sign-ups. Additionally, I produced a bi-monthly newsletter, AGM presentation, and sponsorship presentation—handling everything from design and layout to sourcing material and written content. As a final touch, I was contracted to give the DWG website a modern facelift, encompassing photo catalogues, 15 main pages, multiple subpages, a contact form, sign-up form, and banner sliders. The impact?Through ad campaigns, eye-catching visuals, and consistent communication, my efforts contributed to sold-out fundraising events and high attendance at DWG's Annual Show and Christmas Market. This success allowed DWG to surpass their annual fundraising goal, with profits donated to charity, supporting 13 organizations in need during the 2023 calendar year. The redesigned website received positive feedback, providing a professional and modern touchpoint for sponsors, new members, and charitable organisations.
