About Jackie Hutter

I develop, draft, and manage "Bet the Company Patent Portfolios" that CEOs of innovative companies can deploy to elevate the value of their companies. Since 2009, I have been named a Top Global IP Strategist by my peers each year. My practice model is unique: I work solely with innovators that are solving long-unmet needs that are scalable. This means that what they are doing is patentable because their technology or products offerings are both novel and unobvious. The question is then how these innovators must craft their patents--and other forms of IP that are relevant in context--to ensure that stakeholders get paid back for their hard work and risk taking. In other words, my clients bring me patentable subject matter, and my job is to identify the best way for them to configure their protection to create not just patents, but patents that matter to their company's value. By using the right tools in the "IP Strategy Toolbox" for each client's business aims and goals, I am able to help them create meaningful IP protection quickly, and at reasonable cost. Many of my clients obtain broad patent coverage for their product offerings in less than 1 year, and have been able to leverage this for investment, licensing or exit. As an IP Strategist, I am "technology agnostic," and work with technologies as diverse as medical devices, pharmaceuticals, biosynthetic cosmetic ingredients, polymers, IoT, AI, computer vision, cloud computing, construction, and consumer products. While I typically add significant value when brought in on the front end of a company's patenting process, for other clients I can "right the ship," when management recognizes that a change in IP direction is needed so as to better enable desired business outcomes. I leverage my relationships with experienced legal counsel who provide my clients with excellent IP services at a fair price. I also hold extensive experience in corporate IP management and strategy. If your company seeks to set up an effective and efficient corporate IP program, I am available for consulting. Specialties: IP and Intangible Asset Protection Strategy, Innovation, Lean Startup, Management, Patent Prosecution, Intellectual Property Law, Freedom to Operate, Patent Monetization, Competitive Intelligence, Negotiation and Licensing, Cutting Through Legalese and Explaining Complex IP Topics to Business Leadership to Allow Them to Make Better Decisions

Listed skills include Intellectual Property Value Creation Strategies, Innovation Management, Licensing, Intellectual Property, and 46 others.

► IP Strategy Consultation for Startup and Early Stage Technology Companies : I work with Startup and Early Stage Technology CEO's and VC's who invest in them to ensure that any money spent on patents aligns closely with stakeholders' desired business outcomes. My unique value proposition over other IP experts is my ability to understand how to help Lean teams gain high-caliber in-house IP expertise that allows them to "make it cheaper to go through them than around them." ► Senior/Chief In-House IP Counsel on Part-Time Basis: Companies seeking to better manage existing and ongoing IP portfolios can utilize my extensive experience in corporate and law firm IP practice to set up and maintain improved corporate IP departments without the requirement to take on an expensive full-time internal resource. I can assist in IP audits, outside IP counsel management, selection and implementation of IP Asset Management systems, and the like. I can also help senior corporate management design, implement and communicate corporate IP Strategy programs, as well assisting in setting up specific procedures such as invention disclosure management, patent application drafting and filing and incentivizing inventors.► Patent Monetization Services: I tell you whether your patents are proper candidates for sale and help you identify possible buyers within my worldwide network of patent brokers and corporate business leaders.► IP Audit Services: I review your existing IP portfolio to identify significant immediate cost saving opportunities, as well as areas where your IP coverage may be lacking.► Validation of Investment Targets: If you seek a “reality-based” measurement of whether an investment target owns the necessary IP to make them a good long-term investment, I provide you with a deeper source of validation.

Co-Founder: Business Counselor, Ip Strategist And Patent Lawyer

The Lean Legal Team Of Michael Hutter Llc

After several years in the trenches with entrepreneurs as an IP strategy and business adviser and as CEO of a technology startup company, I realized that there had to be a better legal service model--one where my clients would not pay $500 or more per hour that I would have to charge as a partner at a "real law firm," and within which I would be able to practice law focused on my clients' business model, not mine. Along with my old friend and colleague Ephraim Michael, I have established this new firm to provide legal services to small and mid-sized businesses, as well as startup entrepreneurs. The Lean Legal Team of Michael / Hutter represents business leaders who recognize the value provided by in-house counsel over traditional forms of outside legal representation, but who do not yet need a full-time legal resource, especially at the headcount cost associated with experienced lawyers like ourselves. Because we are entrepreneurs ourselves, we have a passion for those who choose to follow this path, and we also look for opportunities to provide our startup company clients with just the right amount of legal service needed at that time. While our clients' business models may differ, what brings them together is their collective understanding that "marble and mahogany" decor at their lawyers' offices does not create value for their business. Our clients appreciate the fact that we leverage available technology and keep our overhead low, so that we can deliver high quality legal representation at 50% or more less than our peers. We are all also on the same page that "life is too short to work with people you don't like." While the Lean Legal Team model may look new, it is actually a throw-back to the days where lawyers focused on practicing law, not keeping their law firms flourishing. We look forward to demonstrating that Lean business practice can create a client-focused practice model that works for everyone involved.
