Profile bio

About Jackie Lain

I'm not an educator, but I am an enthusiastic advocate and supporter of educators. I have spent my career helping educators understand laws, public policy and most recently, how to select and use instructional materials most effectively to help students learn. I began my career as a school district attorney by day and editor of the the Texas School Administrators' Legal Digest at night. From there, I was recruited to join the Texas Association of School Boards' (TASB) governmental relations team as a lobbyist for all Texas school district. I split my time between advocating for changes in the law in TASB's governmental relations division and helping school district administrators implement the law in TASB's legal division. I left TASB when I received a White House Fellowship (1999-2000), where I worked in the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, communicating the White House's education policy to state and local elected officials and writing speeches for the Director of Intergovernmental Affairs. I then served as the interim Director of the White House Fellows program during the end of the Clinton and beginning of the Bush Administrations. From the White House, became Director of Public Affairs for Standard & Poor's School Evaluation Services division, where I worked with State Commissioners of Education and Governors to determine the relative RORs of their state and local education agencies. I then returned to Texas to become an Associate Executive Director and Director of Governmental Relations for the Texas Association of School Boards, a non-profit corporation that serves all Texas school districts. In that position, I heard from many administrators who lamented spending millions of dollars on instructional materials that teachers were not using. That became a catalyst to my current position as Founder and CEO of Learning List, a service that provides a range of curriculum support services for school districts.

Listed skills include Entrepreneurship, Business Development, Advocacy, School Law, and 23 others.

Subscribers get access to all published reviews and can request additional reviews as part of their subscription. We provide three reviews of each material: (1) Technology compatibility review, (2) Analysis of the material's instructional content and design, and (3) Standard-by-standard alignment review.Learning List reviews material for alignment to unique state, Common Core, NGSS and Advanced Placement standards. In fact, Learning List is the official reviewer of Advanced Placement materials for the College Board.
