I'm not really a fan of labels. I'm proud to belong to that group of folks with a foot planted firmly on either side of the Analytical/Creative divide. It may sound contradictory but if you've got both Critical Thinking and Creative Thinking in your tool box, watch out!Not surprisingly, I love a good challenge and as it happens, my work is full of them but what keeps me coming back are the people and the sheer range. I would be miserable tethered to a desk repeating the same tasks every day of the week but I'd likely be unhappy with a role that didn't let me exercise my logic cells. At present, neither is a problem. Running a small, growing business and understanding it inside and outside means you can be involved in a wide array of projects. On any given day, I may be in another city meeting with buyers to talk about new products, in Asia working with our manufacturing and supply chain team, playing with new product development analyzing internal numbers to make decisions, reviewing photography set and catalog layouts, testing a new integration software for our system, looking at ways to improve our processes, training our sales team, having a strategic planning session (i.e. how can we take over the World, or at least our market segment), and occasionally remembering to eat lunch! I love that I get to use all my skills and regularly find reasons to learn new ones that I can add to the tool box. And lest you think to yourself that I'm taking credit for all that, I must declare quite categorically that I have an amazing team. I tip my hat to them - a committed group who are always willing to lend a hand and work tirelessly to make our company better every day, little by little. I genuinely couldn't do the things I do without them. On the good days, we probably have way too much fun and on the tough days when nothing goes to plan, we can still push on and find something to laugh about.
