Mobilize and guide on-the-ground practitioners, administrators, policymakers, community leaders and partners to identify and act on opportunities for collective action and systems change with the aim of improving the well-being of Oakland's children, youth, and families.

Guide, facilitate and partner in strategic planning and execution of By All Means projects, including strengthening Oakland’s collective impact backbone organization and governance structures, identifying high-leverage opportunities for city-wide action and improving coordination, delivery and monitoring of personalized supports for Oakland Youth via integrated data collection and management systems. The goal of the By All Means initiative is to build the necessary systems of support and opportunity to ensure the well-being and successful education of each and every child. The Youth Ventures Joint Powers Authority (JPA) is a partnership between the City of Oakland, County of Alameda, the Oakland Unified School District, First 5 Alameda County, Alameda County Office of Education, and the Peralta Community College District. This body combines and coordinates efforts by securing and leveraging resources and decision making powers to improve outcomes for broadly challenged families, children and youth. • Professionally developed 25 teachers and 36 support staff resulting in 15% increase in school-wide reading proficiency and increased effectiveness and efficiency of site-based operations• Refined and managed school-wide systems and protocols for data analysis, action planning and progress monitoring, resulting in consistent school-wide academic progress across subject areas• Built a team of coaches with unique subject area expertise tasked with professional development, observation and feedback, student intervention and intensive teacher support• Engaged parents, teachers, support staff, program partners and community members in shared leadership through key site teams, including School Site Council, Instructional Leadership Team, and School Culture Team• Built capacity of teachers and coaches to lead and manage key school-based teams, including Health and Wellness Team, Coordination of Services Team (COST) and Student Success Team (SST)• Engaged key stakeholders including families, teachers and staff, in the development of site Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), budget, school safety plan and master schedule

• Coached, evaluated and improved performance of 8 teachers through observation, feedback and targeted planning support• Designed, coordinated and facilitated data cycles, including assessment, analysis, action planning and execution • Developed and coordinated school-wide plan to promote a culture of goal-setting and student achievement• Launched and lead site-based teams aligned with school site plan, including School Culture Team and Health and Wellness Team

• Developed curricular frameworks and approaches to K-5 standard and bilingual instruction• Planned and delivered professional development in all subject areas with an emphasis on English LanguageDevelopment and literacy instruction• Lead Instructional Leadership Team comprised of grade-level leads across grades K-5• Trained and supported teachers on approaches to intervention, managed school day push-in intervention andafter-school interventions in partnership with after school service provider• Managed placement, monitoring and support of English Language Learners, including Newcomers

• Designed a bilingual long-term plan that gradually shifted the course of study from a 70/30 Spanish/English model to a 30/70 Spanish/English model by the end of one academic year • Served as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team, Accelerated Reader Implementation Coordinator and a Teacher Leader with the California Reading & Literature Project’s (CRLP) Results program

• Equipped Fellows with the foundational knowledge and skills to set, maintain and achieve rigorous academic goals with their students• Observed and evaluated Fellows, reviewed Fellows’ work products, providing targeted feedback to drive continued development and made final recommendation for program completion.Oakland Teaching Fellows worked in partnership with Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) to recruit, select, and train talented college graduates and professionals to become effective teachers in Oakland’s highest-need classrooms.
