As the Prevention & Resource Coordinator, I oversaw training and technical assistance efforts related to designing, implementing, and evaluating sexual violence prevention strategies primarily for the network of rape crisis centers in Pennsylvania. I also coordinated the development of educational resources related to prevention and evaluation, including SafeSecureKids.org.I trained up to 1,000 participants in approximately 30 trainings each year. In 2020 alone, I supported nearly 200 projects and technical assistance requests around curricula usage, resource identification and creation, needs assessments, and program evaluations. Survey data from training and technical assistance requests have resulted in participants reporting greater ability to provide primary prevention strategies and to apply prevention principles. I worked with our team to develop versatile resources, including a podcast series (PA Centered), eLearning modules and courses, presentations, and written documents. I have a strong commitment to helping organizations improve their processes and operations to maximize effectiveness and efficiency. In preparing annual feedback reports for nearly 50 grant applicants, I identified strengths and opportunities for improvement to increase capacity and evaluate programs. I also revamped our competitive funding process to develop more sustainable funding models for multi-year program needs.PCAR ensures that communities have access to quality victim services and prevention education by providing funding, training, materials and assistance to a network of rape crisis centers that serve all of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.

Enola, Pa

In this role, I was responsible for the coordination of short-term projects and pilot programs that involved local rape crisis centers throughout the state of Pennsylvania. My main project focused on a one-year pilot study with five rape crisis centers to determine the effectiveness of telecounseling (interactive video conferencing) for sexual violence survivors. Data from this project was used to help prepare centers and create resources, which were especially applied during the onset of the pandemic when telecounseling grew in demand. With other staff, I was also responsible for the implementation of a statewide evaluation focusing on the prevention and evaluation capacity of rape crisis centers across the state.PCAR ensures that communities have access to quality victim services and prevention education by providing funding, training, materials and assistance to a network of rape crisis centers that serve all of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.

Working with PCAR staff, I was responsible for implementing and evaluating components of a statewide evaluation. This evaluation focuses on the prevention and evaluation capacity of rape crisis centers in Pennsylvania. My duties included coding qualitative interviews and forming assertions in order to write a final report, rating and providing feedback of funding proposals and logic models for centers, and providing guidance for the next phase of the evaluation. As an intern, I worked with both the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR) and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) developing resources and evaluating programs. I wrote a guide about supervision for sexual violence center supervisors and moderated a webinar with two PA center supervisors on the same topic. I developed a draft of an eLearning tool for our online campus about vicarious trauma that will be used as part of the sexual assault counselor training in PA. I worked with a team that developed and evaluated the effectiveness of a campus orientation curriculum on sexual assault. This program will be available for PA centers to present on college campuses throughout the state. Additionally, PCAR conducted a statewide evaluation of primary prevention practices. I was responsible for coding the qualitative responses and forming assertions that will inform best practices. I also assisted the NSVRC with their Sexual Assault Demonstration Initiative (SADI), where I developed a workbook on active listening skills for sexual assault counselors in training.PCAR ensures that communities have access to quality victim services and prevention education by providing funding, training, materials and assistance to a network of rape crisis centers that serve all of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.

Baring House Crisis Nursery

At Baring House Crisis Nursery, I was responsible for scheduling and conducting intakes with clients and providing case management to clients who need additional resources and services. Through YSI, I was trained in Ages & Stages, and conducted assessments on some of the children. I created a Staff Handbook for Baring House to outline and define realistic procedures for the staff.In 1990, Youth Service, Inc. pioneered the crisis nursery model in Philadelphia. The Crisis Nursery program offers parents, grandparents, and other caregivers safe, emergency, short-term care for pre-school children at risk of harm or neglect.

Wellness Resource Center

As an assistant, I supported staff with planning events, including Walk a Mile In Her Shoes. I facilitated weekly group meetings and prepared meeting notes to send to other members. I coordinated program requests between student organizations and peer educators. I designed an educational program titled Hooking Up, that explores hooking up on college campuses. Trained peer educators facilitate this program to groups on campus. In addition, I was on the Interview Committee and interviewed new students to become a part of the next peer class. I helped coordinate the mentorship program between new and existing peer educators.The WRC is Temple University’s health promotion office, focused on helping the campus community understand wellness and ways to flourish. It consists of a team of experienced and dedicated professionals and Certified Peer Educators who work to promote wellness and create connectedness through a variety of programming and services.
