As the Director of the Office of First-Generation Student Success, First Scholars & Opportunity Scholars at the University of Memphis, I manage over $1,000,000 in budgets for scholarships, events, and programming. I supervise and mentor all First Scholars and Opportunity Scholars, and develop partnerships with campus and community organizations to support first-generation students. I plan and coordinate programming and initiatives, faculty & staff training, special events including banquets, recruitment events, cohort retreats, and social activities, and create detailed annual reports for administrators and donors. Additionally, I lead strategic partner meetings and trainings, and provide academic, career, and scholarship advice for all UofM first-generation students, which comprise approximately 38% of our student body. I also serve as a co-chair for the Midwest Region First Forward Institute and lead our university as a mentor institution for the national First Scholars Network.I have been at the UofM since 2011, working with our students and with our alumni populations. Previously I worked as a Coordinator & Membership Analyst for the University of Memphis Alumni Association. As part of my position, I worked on several projects including: Created a mentor program and training manuals/seminars for our Student Ambassador Board and the Backpacks to Briefcases initiative, I also managed web content and website maintenance/development, researched for current alumni association trends and practices, as well as data analysis of the membership database at the University of Memphis Alumni Association. As part of my duties as a special events Coordinator, I also created public relations plans, t-shirt designs and marketing plans and did all event planning, hosting, travel arrangements, event set up and breakdown for over 15 clubs and chapters. One club alone, Pouncer's Pals (1-12 year olds) consisted of 500 highly active members and their families.
