Originally I started to working for Fat Face part-time during my gap year where I was quickly given more responsibilities. I was trusted with keys to the shop and safe from the start of the Christmas season 2010 and was regularly trusted to open in the morning and to cash up at night which involved handling, counting and banking high quantities of money. I was trusted with keys to the shop and safe from the start of the Christmas season 2010 and was regularly trusted to open in the morning and to cash up at night which involved handling, counting and banking high quantities of money. Most Sundays I was given the responsibility of being the senior member of staff for the day undertaking supervisor responsibilities; including dealing with complaints and returns, filling out paperwork at the end of the day regarding sales figures and how that would affect our sales strategy for the week/season/quarter while being at the head of a team that had to work together to create a productive day of sales. While working for Fat Face I also went through a very steep learning curve that taught me skills in various fields. Including, how to organize a shop stock room for efficient and safe use. The use of visual merchandising; when it is appropriate to change what is set by the head office and how using ‘VM’ can make or break the performance of the shop and how the customers react to our product. I also learnt how to behave with customers by being friendly and genially proud of the brand to offer the best service and guaranteeing a customer for life. I realized how being part of a strong team is vital in retail: when to listen, take advice and direction but also how to give direction without being overbearing so to create a respectful and happy working environment.
