The project involved utilizing Saft-developed lithium-ion cells, which initially had low-volume production, and successfully scaling the process to achieve high-volume production that would meet the needs of automotive quality and volumeWithin a remarkable timeline of under 14 months, the project transformed a brownfield facility into a cutting-edge lithium-ion manufacturing facility capable of producing one cell every 3 seconds. The project budget of $250 million was supported through the ARRA program.A notable achievement was the successful sourcing of over 80% of the equipment from US-based manufacturers.
