In my role as Senior Process Engineer, responsibilities include: Process selection, commissioning & start-up, and optimisation. Project management and operational support. Business development.

Based mainly at Kakuma Refugee Camp working on a UNHCR project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, I oversee technical aspects of Sanivation’s market-based approach to providing sanitation as a service in refugee camps and urbanising communities. Responsibilities have included:  Design of faecal sludge treatment & reuse and solar thermal heating systems, including a containerised system for remote locations. Managing implementation of designs throughout the project lifecycle including design, construction, and operation. Managing operation teams, and optimising treatment & reuse processes. Input into design of toilets, collection, and other aspects of the value chain.  Overseeing regulatory approval, compliance, and safety aspects of projects. Technical input to grant applications.  New business development and building relationships with partners.

CAI is a non-governmental organisation working globally in disaster relief and community development. After three months in my original role as WASH Program Manager (see below), I took on the extra position of Acting Field Office Coordinator at Kakuma Refugee Camp. Managing over 20 staff and reporting to the Country Director, I was responsible for all office and program activities in the Kakuma Field Office.

Based at Kakuma Refugee Camp in Turkana County, I managed CAI’s WASH activities in Kenya and the WASH team at Kakuma Refugee Camp. Reporting to the Kenya Country Director, duties included:• Managing, leading and building the capacity of the WASH team in Kenya. • Representing at meetings with government, communities, NGOs and the UN.• Leading and creating new initiatives and partnerships.• Leading program innovation and developing new content in collaboration with staff and external experts.• Planning and facilitation of water, sanitation and hygiene capacity building and livelihoods programs o Personally facilitated a six-month professional-level WASH training course o Managed a diverse team to train over 250 people in basic WASH skills• Managing logistics, budgets, HR and overall administration as well as reporting, monitoring and evaluation of activities.• Arranging and overseeing intensive training courses in handpump repair, latrine construction, and hydrogeology o Managed a $50,000 budget and logistics for a two-week hydrogeological survey of the area

Progressing from my previous role as Corporate Partnership Coordinator, as Vice President I oversee the committee operations; act as an ambassador for EWB at the regional and national level; liaise between members of the group; and provide advisory input to committee members. I continue to manage local corporate partner engagement, and am part of the national team working on the organisation’s strategy review.

EWS is a designer, manufacturer and project manager of water treatment systems in the industrial, potable and wastewater markets for clients including Santos, Roy Hill and local councils. I was a core team member throughout the lifecycles of major projects; from the initial tender and contract negotiation stage through process design, documentation and manufacture to hands-on installation, commissioning and operator training. Duties included:• Design of water and wastewater treatment plants including documentation, Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs), and operator training.• Process support, diagnostics and optimisation.• Preparation of proposals and tenders, including input during contract negotiation.• Sales and marketing of EWS products.• Integration of partner products into EWS’ range.• Research and development of proprietary products and processes.• Installation and commissioning of plants on industrial and remote sites.SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS• Developed the GO TREAT Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor design. This peer-reviewed and authority-approved design made the design more competitive in the target markets by reducing cost and plant footprint. The design was used for several projects up to $1.3million in value, including the Nauru plant which received two awards at the Water Industry Alliance Smartwater Awards 2014, and the Santos Moomba plant which won the Minister's Award for Excellence in Water Sustainability - High Commendation at the Water Industry Alliance Smartwater Awards 2015.• Designed and worked on several GO TREAT RD wastewater treatment plant projects, including two for Roy Hill Mining in Western Australia.• Built a sales network for industrial and trade waste water treatment equipment, resulting in sales including a Dissolved Air Flotation system at a cheese factory, water treatment for a brewery and a triple effluent monitoring system.

I investigated the mechanisms involved in the accumulation of calcium sulphate deposits in water heaters, conducting experiments, collating data and analysing and presenting the data in a comprehensive report.

As part of the Chevron University Bursary Scheme, I played a central role in process engineering activities for the Olefins units at Chevron’s Pembroke Refinery, Wales. I worked closely with the process and operations teams to provide operational support and advice, coordinate maintenance activities and create process monitoring and optimisation tools.
