Profile bio

About Jack Mcinerney

As a J.D. candidate at Wake Forest University Law School, I'm honored to be a member of the Journal of Law and Policy. In my first year of law school, I aimed to maximize my exposure to extracurricular activities, including competing in Trial Bar, Moot Court, three intramural teams/seasons, and running for 1L Student Bar Association Representative. I lost the election, but I can proudly say I did not protest the validity of such nor storm the Dean's Office. I currently work as a Judicial Intern and Clerk for Honorable Chief Judge Beth Phillips in the Federal District Court of Missouri. Though too extensive to recite, the benefits from this role are profound, including accelerating my legal writing, research, and analysis skills through exposure to a broad array of cases and issues. Prior to this role, I worked as a Law Clerk at O'Melveny & Myers LLP in Washington D.C. As an initial exposure to legal experience, this role cemented a base of knowledge and insight beyond what is expected before enrolling in law school. As part of the litigation team, I compiled several witness/expert briefs essential for a fast-tracked trial scheduled for late summer. In addition, I was involved in countless team meetings, pre-trial conferences, and was responsible for real-time exhibit and information requests.

Community Volunteer

Kansas City, Missouri, United States

Since childhood, my family and I have been actively involved with Operation Breakthrough, a nonprofit organization that serves underprivileged children and families in Kansas City. As dedicated volunteers, we have assumed a variety of roles over the years, primarily serving as classroom assistants and educational mentors. As I grew older, my responsibilities expanded to include a wider range of tasks, such as assisting in teaching basic courses, optimizing daily schedules, and accommodating requests from families and children. In addition to our regular volunteer work, my family and I also organized charity events and fundraisers for Operation Breakthrough. One of the most impactful events we helped plan and execute was a yearly city-wide baby diaper drive hosted at Brooksider Restaurant and Bar. The success of this initiative exceeded our expectations as it grew to involve two large UHaul truck trailers filled with diapers and other child hygiene products, as well as tens of thousands of dollars in donations. Our commitment to serving Operation Breakthrough has been a personal passion of mine, and I am proud of the impact we have made on this incredible organization. I look forward to continuing to support their mission and help make a positive difference in the lives of children and families in need.
