As an intern, Senator Warner's welcoming and talented staff gave me every opportunity to grow. In just eight weeks, I: drafted remarks, press releases, email communications, and other correspondence for direct public release; conducted research on legislation for memos in health policy including value payment, eating disorders, & Medicare; and served the Senator’s constituents by answering phone calls, processing constituent mail, and giving Capitol tours. This was an especially enriching summer thanks to the Leonard D. Schaeffer Fellowship in Public Service!

Working directly with BHA's Deputy Director of Policy and External Engagement, I conducted in-depth policy research on SAMHSA grants, state Medicaid policy, and BHA programs; assembled 3 databases and several memos on programs, committees, and rulemaking for use of senior staff; and tracked policy developments in the new Behavioral Health Safety Net. I'm proud to have served underserved communities while gaining extremely hands-on substantive policy experience.

As an intern in the highly selective Executive Internship program with Governor Jared Polis, I worked in the office of Correspondence and Constituent Services, directly serving the people of Colorado and drafting statements on behalf of the Governor. By navigating government resources, communicating with constituents and collaborating with government actors, I gained a substantive understanding of state government.

The Justice Revival inspires and mobilizes Christian communities in the fight for human rights, especially in advocacy for the Equal Rights Amendment. During my time there, I: reached a social media audience of thousands with timely communication on human rights history and the Equal Rights Amendment; conducted policy research surrounding modern human rights issues; wrote multiple informational blog posts for the Justice Revival website; and designed messaging for posters which were carried down Pennsylvania Avenue. I also witnessed a zenith of the modern push for the ERA, where it gained a majority of Senators' approval in a historic vote.
