I am a Senior Consultant in the Financial Accounting Advisory Services Team at Grant Thornton Ireland. In this role I get to gain experience and learn from a vast range of engagements with the team. Starting a new job in such a large firm can often take me out of my comfort zone as it is so different to the college lifestyle I became so used to while studying at The National University of Ireland Maynooth. An example of an engagement that took me out of my comfort zone was Aviation Consulting. Having little to no knowledge in the Aviation industry this seemed almost daunting to me at the beginning. However, help and a lot of patience from my project manager got me over the line at the end. i picked up skills in AlphaTag, creation of iXBRL files from financial statements and co-ordination between departments for the successful completion of the engagement.Having moved onto Internal Auditing with a large Multinational Investment bank I learned the skills and techniques to get a vivid insight of the processes and key practices for the completion of internal auditing. This industry of work was new to me but I remained keen to get the best insight and experience from this type of work. The Internal Audit process helped me to improve my thought process and critical thinking towards business processes and production. This engagement gave me a deeper insight to the banking sector and it's processes.I am currently working on an engagement with a multinational financial services company analysing and evaluating clients Financial Statements and Statements of Investments. I find this work to be very engaging as it allows me to get a broad understanding of the Financial Services industry. This has been helping me to improve my reviewing skills such as analysing and investigating. I hope to work on this type of work more and further progress my skills in this industry.
