Transformation projects were predominant, focusing on phasing out, or reengineering, outdated systems and processes. Coupled with this was the fact that the business expanded into global regions, requiring certain systems and processes to be centralised and standardised. Working with cross-functional and cross-regional teams was the norm. Obtaining buy-in from sponsors and key stakeholders was the only way to get anything kicked off. Limited resources and big backlogs presented challenges that required constant negotiation, with frequent disagreements among sponsors regarding priority of different initiatives. To tackle this challenge, we redefined how we presented the status and details of projects in flight, so that decisions could be made using high level information, and planning could be streamlined for the C-level sponsors. Many of our recent projects involved external vendor systems, where detailed analysis, RFx processes, and price negotiations were executed to enable our business partners to make informed decisions. Strong business and technology acumen was a crucial to ensure that prospective technologies met regulatory and compliance requirements, whether a given technology could slot into the complex technology and network infrastructure, and not to mention that it had to meet user and process requirements. For smaller localised projects, we utilised our internal development teams to build simple web-apps and automate data flows to achieve efficiency and productivity, keeping in line with the company's design standards, as well as with the strategic goals of the business. Some emergency admissions were conducted out of hours, where we'd need to page the on-call staff to assist. This was one of the most humbling work experiences I had, and it taught me patience, empathy, and the importance of clear communication. Show less

My internship here was an intensive six months of learning and working simultaneously in an area I really had no experience in. I gained invaluable experience during this time, paving the way for my career in the Financial Services industry.

I worked in the shipping department, gaining knowledge about how the business worked. This experience, although brief, was a good insight into how large organisations operate.
