I am an attorney at the intellectual property boutique law firm of Thayne and Davis, focusing primarily on developing U.S. and foreign patent portfolios related to electrical, computer, and software technologies. I also provide litigation support and technical analysis to assist in strategic advisory and legal opinion matters, including assessing claim construction, infringement, and invalidity issues.I am experienced in procuring patent protection for innovations in a diverse range of technological areas including network infrastructure equipment, business methods, e-commerce, Internet services, data management and security, digital rights management, software, telecommunications, electronic circuits, mechanical devices, wireless systems, optical devices and materials, semiconductor materials and processing, energy storage, and solar cell technologies.Prior to co-founding the firm, I was a partner at an IP boutique firm in the Salt Lake area, an associate in the Technology and Intellectual Property group at Stoel Rives, LLP, in the firm's Salt Lake City office, as well as a Student Associate at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP in the firm's Silicon Valley office, where I gained extensive experience in strategic patent planning and portfolio development, reexamination proceedings, and IP due diligence studies. During my undergraduate studies, I worked as a research assistant at the University of Utah, where I conducted research investigations in laser and optical systems, non-linear optics, and optical biological detection platforms for lab-on-a-chip applications. I also conducted research on innovative microfluidic optical devices as an intern at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey. My work on such devices led to the award of U.S. Patent No. 6,847,493, of which I am the first named inventor.
