About Jack Rockley
— Much of my laboratory experience centres on Chromatography and Spectroscopy, but I am also familiar with many other laboratory techniques, instruments, and model organisms.— I understand the importance of GLP, GMP and COSHH to a laboratory environment.— I have worked extensively from major modern Pharmacopoeias, such as the USP, EP, and BP.— I am trained in the use of LIMS, Q-Pulse, TDS and Chromeleon software suites. — I am also fully competent in PC and Mac computing, particularly with Microsoft Office. — I have excellent problem solving skills, I admire the scientific method, and I enjoy developing a thorough understanding of the workings of complex systems: because of this I often find myself able to see the ‘big picture’ that others sometimes cannot.— I am interested in further on-the-job training, and am committed to self-improvement. — I have good time management skills, and am able to allocate time effectively between tasks.— I am comfortable either working independently, or as part of a team.— I have experience in both creating written reports and giving presentations on my work.— More generally, I am intelligent, reliable, enthusiastic and good fun to work with!

Jack Rockley work experience
A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Analytical Technical Leader
In this role, I managed two teams, one with a focus of Pharmacopoeial testing of Raw Materials, and the other conducting Cleaning Verification of manufacturing equipment. I was responsible for: providing line management and technical leadership of seven analytical scientists; overseeing the testing and release of both raw materials and operational equipment; coordinating development and validation of analytical methods for cleaning verification; and the completion of all the associated GMP documentation.
Senior Analytical Development Scientist
Building on my experience as a junior scientist, much of my time is spent drafting, reviewing, or approving validation protocols and reports. To assist in the investigation of Out of Specification, or Out of Expectation results, I also interpret complex data, form hypotheses that might fit the observations, and design investigations to test the hypotheses. As this is a client-facing role, I help present batch data and validation data and discuss technical matters clearly in both verbal and written formats. I line manage a team of two junior scientists, training and guiding my team in best practices and developing their skills. As in my previous role, I have become involved in the administration of Quotient’s Chromatography Data System (CDS). I played a key role in the design, validation, and implementation of the company’s first automated HPLC data calculators. Generally, in this job I’ve built upon my ability to work calmly and efficiently under tight deadlines.
Analytical Development Scientist
In this role, my primary duty was to carry out analytical method development, optimisation and validation for investigational medicinal products at the commencement of phase one clinical trials. Simultaneously, I provided testing support to our formulation development team as they produce prototype drug products before settling on a formulation that can enter into a Chemistry Manufacturing and Control campaign. I helped troubleshoot any analytical difficulties experienced by our CMC/QC team in resolving problems in a timely manner. Additionally, I developed cleaning methods, and carried out cleaning verification to support our manufacturing team, to help prevent contamination between manufactures.
Senior Quality Control Analyst
I was promoted in rank to senior analyst as I was consistently able to accomplish all of the responsibilities of a junior analyst with a high level of competence, and had also become actively involved in multiple continuous improvement initiatives, such as migration to rapid analysis, validation of shelf life and method transfers. At RB, I act as an administrator of our Chromatography Data System and LIMS databases, and have personally demonstrated the use and operation of our CDS to auditors visiting from both the MHRA and the USFDA. I help maintain our libraries of specifications and methods, and I control the lab sample archive. I have written SOPs, and designed calibration procedures. I am particularly proud of having personally trained several new-starts and interns, and help coordinate their integration into the laboratory. I routinely support our internal auditing programs and have contributed to improvements in the laboratory's key performance indicators.
Quality Control Analyst
As an analyst working in an analytical chemistry laboratory, my duties in this role centred on the use of HPLC and GC to assay the chemical concentration of APIs in various consumer medicines and raw materials. This involved preparing solutions, setting up the instruments, creating run sequences, integrating chromatographs and calculating results.Spectroscopy (UV-Vis, FTIR, NIR and Raman) also featured strongly in my analyses. Other analytical chemistry techniques supplemented these central roles; numerous pharmacopoeia techniques were used to ascertain chemical identity, chemical stability, impurity quantification, water content, metal content, solubility and various physical properties. General day-to-day duties included booking in samples, managing data, generating Certificates of Analysis, archiving, ordering supplies, as well as keeping the laboratory tidy and well organised.
Laboratory Technician
In this job, I performed PCR, SDS-PAGE and ELISA for the purpose of veterinary disease detection.
