I served as the first customs compliance manager for Kirkland’s, a national home décor and furniture retailer with no previous importing experience.- I developed the customs compliance program for Kirkland’s from scratch.- I served as the subject matter expert for tariff classification, origin determination, and Section 301 exclusion applicability, as well as tariff engineering.- I supported the implementation of global trade modules of a company-wide ERP system, including service provider integrations, and was extensively involved in custom design as well as UAT.

Management position with direct report. I served as the company subject matter expert on import compliance, tariff classification, and customs valuation for RH, a North American luxury furniture and home décor importer.• I was the main point of contact for all import and export government interaction for the US and Canada, including US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).• I was the relationship owner for customs broker management for 4 service providers in the US and Canada, including writing and implementing a standard operating procedure for each.• I developed and implemented anti-dumping and countervailing (ADD/CVD) trade remedy compliance measures in response to two new cases affecting RH’s product lines.• I created and advised on duty mitigation strategies in response to Section 301 trade remedy measures.• I recovered over $600,000 in duty drawback through process improvements.

Senior position with intern reports. I supported import compliance, export compliance and select international trade issues with Tesla’s Global Trade Compliance team. Tesla designs, manufactures, and sells electric vehicles as well as energy storage systems, and is a multi-billion dollar importer and exporter with offices on 5 continents.• I was the main point of contact for export compliance for the largest exporter in the state of California.- I made commodity jurisdiction determinations with regards to production material, test equipment, and special development projects, including autonomous driving, semiconductor fabrication, and advanced manufacturing technologies.- I administered Tesla’s ACE account as the Trade Account Owner and on-boarded and trained new users in filing EEI in AESDirect. I also developed a web-based program in ACE for import and export compliance audits.• In response to Section 232 and Section 301 trade remedies, I founded “tiger team” task forces with the global supply chain organization to develop innovative strategies to reduce component landed cost.- Acting as the subject matter expert on tariff classification, I researched and developed potential tariff and origin engineering arrangements for suppliers.• From August 2015 to March 2017, I provided clearance support for inbound ocean, air, and courier shipments.- I worked with Tesla’s 2 largest volume customs brokers in resolving HTS classification, country of origin, valuation, and OGA/PGA concerns for a multi-billion-dollar annual import lane.- I arranged front-line clearance support for urgent production, project cargo, and high-visibility prototype shipments for multiple business units, including coordinating clearance of air charters and hand-carry couriers.

I worked with Georgia-Pacific’s International Trade Capability to support international business activities across all of GP’s businesses, including consumer products, pulp and paper, building products, and chemical divisions. • I served as dedicated internal customer support for GP’s building products segment.• I conducted HTS classification and country of origin determination in support of import and export activities.- I developed a comprehensive database for product classification with data entry capabilities and a description reference tool for US and Canada HTS classifications.• I served as the capability lead for “assist” tracking and reporting.- I monitored additions to price paid or payable for the consumer products business segment, including tracking assists from purchase to customs declaration, and I developed an alternate apportionment method for assists provided to overseas vendors that saved our capability time and broker fees.

Analyzed threats to the supply chain for reports used in BSI's SCREEN program. SCREEN is the Supply Chain Risk Exposure Evaluation Network, a tool to assist supply chain professionals in assessing criminal and geopolitical risks worldwide.

Assisted faculty and staff with selected strategic trade control and nuclear nonproliferation projects under the University of Georgia's Center for International Trade and Security (CITS).• Assisted CITS faculty and staff during biannual Security & Strategic Trade Management Academy in October 2011 and in March 2012. Participants in the Academy learn how to successfully develop and implement export controls to meet international compliance standards. The Academy hosts foreign customs officials as well as domestic policymakers and private sector partners.• Assisted CITS faculty and staff during CBRN Security Culture Workshop in February 2012. Participants aimed to create a shared system to combat security threats related to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear technologies.• Co-authored "CARICOM: Working Together Toward Security" with other SLP Fellows for CITS' CARICOM Project. This brief was distributed to delegates from Caribbean states, the U.S. Department of State, and the United Nations during CITS' CARICOM New York Workshop in September 2011.
