About Jackson Keppen
Currently I am a graduate researcher pursuing a Master's degree in nuclear engineering at Oregon State University. I am primarily focusing on numerical methods for coursework. I am also an Engineering Intern in the Innovation Department at NuScale Power. My work is currently under an NDA. I previously worked in the Licensing department at NuScale, where I was responsible for creating a gap analysis between United States nuclear regulations and Canadian nuclear regulations to assist in the preparation for the Canadian Vendor Design Review process. I was also responsible for creating the change logs for revisions of the NuScale Finals Safety Analysis Report. As an undergraduate, I did research into the use of a lead slowing-down spectrometer (LSDS) to determine the cross section of a variety of materials in the 100 keV range. I used Monte Carlo N-Particle simulations to model the device to measure the room interactions and determine the necessary shielding. From this research, I wrote a thesis to satisfy my honor's college undergraduate degree requirements.

The end goal was to have an accurate model of the LSDS so that the device can be acquired from Pacific Northwest National Lab. I used this to write an undergraduate thesis for Oregon State's Honors College.
