Research Assistant- Resource Manufacturing And Design Lab
I am the project lead the development of a comprehensive parametric model for wind turbine blade production. Using this model, I conducted a market assessment of the potential advantages of a novel manufacturing method for wind turbine blade molds using additive manufacturing. This model identified significant benefits of adopting an additively manufactured modular aluminum wind turbine blade mold, projecting a 30% cost reduction and a 50% reduction in time to market compared to conventional production of fiberglass composite wind turbine blades. I presented and effectively communicated research findings to the Department of Energy every month, showcasing the groundbreaking potential of additive manufacturing in wind turbine blade production.
Project/Process Engineer
My primary responsibilities included creating and maintaining process routings for new and existing products and collaborating with the production team and outside vendors to develop new processes and tooling. I worked with the operations team in process development and continuous improvement while troubleshooting quality issues using root cause analysis and GD&T. Research Intern
I researched a novel method of reducing ignition delay in light duty compression ignition engines using glow plugs commonly found in diesel engines. This included modeling the glow plug and conducting thermal simulations to develop methods to induce a hotter glow plug tip for faster ignition. I designed and manufactured a thermal shield to trap fuel close to the surface of the glow plug to reduce ignition delay, and identified new materials for the glow plug tip that could withstand higher temperatures for a longer period of time.
