If there's one thing I'm sure of, it's my passion for engineering. Ever since I was a young, starry-eyed kid I had an insatiable drive to not only find out what made things tick, but also how to make them better using whatever I could scrounge up around the house. Now, that passion burns brighter than ever before. Experiencing and learning about the wonderful things engineers can do to make a difference in the world and in the lives of individuals is what drives me to be the best engineer I can be.It's this drive that motivates me not just to excel in my studies, but to take the initiative and explore things on my own. I've enjoyed just about every class I've taken (especially the challenging ones) because I'm always hungry to learn new things and change my perspective. This is the reason I chose to study abroad in Sweden, where I not only learned how to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries, but also experienced first-hand the subtle differences in the engineering processes used in Sweden. Working with Volvo Construction Equipment as part of my exchange at Lund University was especially exciting for me as not only did I get to work with colleagues from a completely different background from me, but I also got to learn real-world design principles from an industry leader as we constructed a machine to their specifications.From my time at the University of Maryland, I've picked up a strong proficieny with technical programs and skills used in the industry today. Much of this comes from the unique cirriculum, which affords me the opportunity to indulge my curiosity through a plethora of projects that put not only our technical skills to the test, but our creativity. The project I enjoyed the most was my mechatronics project. For my project, I decided to combine the two things I'm most passionate about, music and engineering, to build an automated guitar tuner from scratch. It was quite difficult to wire and code the system from scratch, but the feeling of satisfaction after seeing it work can't be matched. From projects like these I've learned how to leverage the academic knowledge into real world applications.
