My areas of research focus on phonetics, phonology, and morphology, working primarily with French and with Basque. I am concerned with how speakers manipulate their speech from a theoretical and a social standpoint. From a phonological perspective, I am interested in speakers’ innate understanding of the prosodic hierarchy to facilitate covert operations bound by prosodic units in cases such as word games or diminution. I have focused on the French word game Verlan and the Basque process of diminution. From a phonetic perspective, I am interested in how different dialects of French evolve their sounds, and in how laminal fricative use in Basque marks the language’s different dialects. I have also been teaching as a graduate student assistant since 2021. I have taught courses in college writing, introduction to linguistics, and introduction to phonetics and phonology.
