My group is interested in fundamental questions about cell organization, and how these processes are subverted in human disease (eg. obesity/metabolic syndrome, viral infection). Eukaryotic cells are characterized by an internal membrane organization that is both highly dynamic and structurally complex, and it is only now that technologies are being developed that can address the major questions in the field. We have uncovered new processes that underline the importance of two-way information transfer between membrane lipids and the protein machinery involved in membrane remodeling and trafficking processes. Along with other groups at our Institute and external collaborators, we are working on developing new technologies, especially in light microscopy and correlative light-electron microscopy, and at the interface between cell biology and biophysics.Specialties: Cell biology (light and electron microscopy), biochemistry, genetics and genomics
