Profile bio

About Jackson Hartley

I earned my M.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine - Greenville. I am a graduate of The Honors College at the College of Charleston, Cum Laude, with a Bachelors of Science in Public Health. I am currently a resident physician in internal medicine with PRISMA Health in Greenville, SC. Prior to medical school, I worked in the Emergency Medical Services for 8 years in both paid and volunteer capacities. Across 3 agencies, I have seen the challenges that face medicine today and how those challenges correlate to population subtypes. The 3000+ clinical hours that I have amassed have made me a better provider through interpersonal communication, as well as through exposure to the obstacles many face in their pursuit of primary care medicine. I hope to apply both aspects in the coming years of my medical journey. One of my proudest accomplishments to date is having been one of the 250 people selected nationally in 2014 for the Congressional Gold medal, which is presented in a special ceremony in Washington DC each June.I have an ongoing interest in the intersection between public health and medicine. In my undergraduate studies, I investigated the geographic relationship between social determinants of health (SDoH) and cardiac arrest outcomes in Charleston county. The goal of this research was to develop an assessment tool and action plan for community leaders. Additionally, in medical school I was part of a team that investigated the application of a screening tool for SDoH in the clinical setting in order to apply tailored interventions to each patient that address their specific health disparities. This work was published to JAMA Open Network in 2024. I subscribe to the idea that healthcare should further embrace preventative medicine and public health theory to promote health and eliminate chronic disease. I look forward to becoming part of this movement as I move into clinical practice in our rural communities.

Listed skills include Leadership, First Aid, Emergency Medicine, Research, and 16 others.
