I’ve been an Undergraduate Instructor for the past three semesters and not only my technical skills increased, so did my personal skills. I’ve critically thought about solving problems in a way that can be communicated to those with different technical skills. These communication skills have proven to be just as important as being able to write complicated code and debug complex problems. Not only did my communication skills improve, teaching strengthened my fundamentals in technical skills by breaking down ideas and presenting them in ways the students have not thought of before. Seeing from team member perspectives is a skill every leader should have.I’ve also been a Technology Consultant for University Information Technology Services since Spring 2018. With this experience, I’ve examined data collected (mostly with Microsoft Excel) within the department to recognize trends and present efficient operational changes. I work on the projects during the semester and I present my findings to administrators. This tactic is useful because I can bring my perspective of being a student making claims backed by data and research to the administrators to make operational changes. I also assist students and peers with any technology issue they might have regarding the university’s information technology, giving me a unique look at the end user.
