ESA's Environmental Hydrology and Design Group services integrate hydrology, hydraulics, sediment transport, geomorphology and engineering design. We work in range of ecosystems that include rural and urban watersheds, rivers and floodplains, tidal and estuarine environments and the coastal zone.My project work includes habitat restoration, floodplain and stormwater management, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and analysis, coastal and fluvial hazard assessment that considers climate change and sea-level rise and associated adaptation.

-Worked with Dr. Pasternack to evaluate hydraulics and sediment transport regimes of multiple pool geometries of a pool-riffle sequence in a gravel-bed river. Research focused on manipulated digital models based on Dry Creek in Winters, CA and utilized surface water modeling software SRH-2D, SMS and ArcGIS.(Citation: Jackson, J. R., Pasternack, G. Yuba River Watershed

-Survey rivers, streams and reservoirs in the Yuba River watershed for characterization study of streamwood abundance and transport.-Classify wood by size, geomorphological function, morphological location, and condition using Trimble GPS device.

Newport Beach

-Respond to emergency incidents, take actions to prevent injury, and perform surf/ocean rescues of injured or incapacitated victims in a dangerous marine environment; Administer DOT First Responder First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Automatic External Defibrillation, as necessary; Provide oversight, leadership, backup and relief for other Seasonal Ocean Lifeguards-Operate as an Assistant Junior Lifeguard Group Leader, providing oversight, leadership, instruction and safety for 50 participants daily; Develop and maintain goals for the program; Handle difficult parental issues/problems; Mentor assigned instructors; Coordinate the use of equipment; Handle immediate problems such as discipline, scheduling and rescues, when assigned-Patrol an assigned area in an emergency response vehicle or rescue boat, providing surveillance of swimmers, and assistance, back-up and relief for lifeguards assigned to the area; Educate and advise beach goers of dangerous marine conditions and beach hazards; Provide lectures and presentations on beach and ocean safety, CPR and first-aid; Provide high level customer service, education and information to residents and beach visitors; Identify lost individuals and coordinate reunification

2010-Planned and set up laboratory demos and exercises for mixed graduate/undergraduate fluid mechanics course-Planned and led field trip for 25 students to Army Corps of Engineers Bay Model and nearby sites.

2008 - 2009-Prepared structural steel reinforcement and applied strain gauges to steel-reinforced concrete column-beam specimens, used for seismic load testing
