Director Of Operations
Developer & Instructor
Data Engineer
I developed and maintained production-level Python, Java, Scala, and Spark code that interfaced with core internal banking systems (Alnova) and external vendors' APIs (Bing, AdSense, Criteo, etc.) in order to transform data into more suitable and manageable formats, such as Avro and Parquet, for long-term storage and faster delivery to end-users within the bank. One example: the development of a suite of APIs for BBVA's Customer Intelligence team to automatically pull data from third-party marketing vendors into Postgres instead of manually pulling each vendor's data separately. This project delivered key data to business partners faster and more reliably than existing solutions.I also helped architect, configure, and maintain various cloud platform services to create a custom HDFS cluster for distributed processing and long-term storage of sourced (cleaned) data for various lines of businesses within the bank. Simultaneously, I helped transition the burgeoning Big Data team from a Waterfall-like workflow to an Agile one (Scrum) by managing daily Scrum Master responsibilities, such as building product backlogs and prioritizing Jira tasks for upcoming and active sprints, and I created business requirements and user stories for the advent of an automated test-driven development suite for Data Engineering.
Front End Engineer
I helped develop a standalone, automated behavior-driven testing environment with Cucumber.js, Web Driver, and Selenium by writing a suite of user stories for the bank's first cross-platform Tablet Banking application. This furthered the application's continuous integration and deployment life cycle (CI/CD) that was managed with Atlassian's workflow tools (JIRA, Bitbucket, Bamboo).I extensively used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create front-end components for BBVA's Tablet Banking application, which was built with Google's Polymer library.
Engineering Intern
My first responsibility at Motus was to manage and organize the compilation of a comprehensive compliance report pursuant to the Federal Motor and Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) for motorcycle manufacturers. In order to do this, I coordinated with business owners and mechanical engineers to design tests and outfit the Motus MST and MSTR motorcycles in testing equipment in order to demonstrate said compliance. After testing, I aggregated the resulting data sets and documented the compliance of the FMVSS through these reports with supporting data and physical analysis.I also developed a mobile website for Motus, and later I created another website showcasing Motus's American V4 engine. I designed and developed this responsive website in a TypeScript-based framework in less than a week.
Supplemental Instructor
During my time as an undergraduate at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, I had the privilege of being selected as a supplemental instructor (SI) for the calculus-based general physics courses in the physics department. I was given complete creative control over the content I provided for my students during the free, voluntary sessions that I hosted alongside bi-weekly lectures, labs, and recitation sections. I would attend lecture with my students, create worksheets for them to complete during the sessions I hosted, and I would be available to them at any time if they required additional help with the course. When an exam date neared, I would write a mock exam, distribute the exam, and host a three-hour long session to review the material that would be covered on the upcoming exam. This experience allowed me to experience teaching at the collegiate level in a very real way during my time as an undergraduate. I was able to lead the classroom during my sessions, convey and clarify physics concepts for students that were struggling with the material, and interact with the physics faculty and staff in order to provide the best possible learning environment for students.
Technician
While at Phone Restore, I performed repairs on hundreds of smart phones and tablets, and I spent a considerable amount of my time supporting customers' needs and concerns. I was a part of the team that continually led the company in customer satisfaction and total sales per store by providing excellent customer service while also delivering high quality work on the repairs that we performed.
Cashier
My first job was where I learned the most about myself, and it will always remain on my LinkedIn for that reason. I loathed feeling like a number to an unknown employer; however, I loved helping customers and my coworkers, and I'll always be grateful for the people that gave me this opportunity. My responsibilities were typical for the title: I ensured the cash register ran smoothly, the store was clean and in order, and that every customer was taken care of promptly and professionally.
