The Gerardo Lab focuses on host-pathogen endosymbiosis particularly with Anasa Tritis, the Squashbug, Serratia marcescens, and the members of the genus Burkholderia. Currently, assisting in the assembly of closed/sterile systems for future experimentation involving Burkholderia and the Squashbug. Refining microbiology and laboratory skills such as aseptic technique, streak plating, DNA/RNA extraction, nanodropping, conversion of colonies into glycerol stock, triparental mating(transformation), Polymerase chain reaction and its purification for subsequent sequencing.

Worked with students in need of assistance in biology courses. More specifically, explaining/reteaching concepts students could not grasp in the fast paced classroom/lab.
