Durant Road Elementary

I supervise 24 elementary school students and one counselor during before-school care. I plan and coordinate special activities for them such as Obstacle Day. I communicate effectively with parents and teachers during this time. I create for these kids and fellow counselors an inclusive environment where they can be themselves.•Operated a safe and healthy environment for 25 kids whose parents need before school child care•Served as YMCA contact at Elementary School developmental meetings•Attended weekly planning meetings with directors to address long-term opportunities and short-term goals

Durant Road Elementary

I directly supervise 25 fourth and fifth graders during after-school care. I, along with the other leadership staff, create daily activities and special programs. I help coach new staff and am very active in conversing with parents and school staff. My biggest accomplishment was creating a Junior Counselor program in the fall of 2011. This program is meant to give fourth and fifth graders a chance to develop leadership skills and help create special programs for all to enjoy. This program is now being used in other after-schools including one in Virginia. During my time at Durant, I have assisted in creating unforgettable huddle theme days and camper-counselor challenges.•Collaborated with After-school team to develop creative programming activities for the campers •Developed a Junior Counselor Program to give 4th and 5th graders a chance at learning basic leadership skills•Planned special activities for 8 counselors and 110 campers weekly during the school year•Served as the liaison for the YMCA when discussing goals for the school system moving forward

Camp Sea Gull, Arapahoe Nc

At Camp Sea Gull, I assisted the leadership staff in creating fun Cabin Nights and programs. I also completed daily swim checks down at the swim lake. My other duties consisted of completing cabin inspections and making the rounds to see if all kids were out at activities. My main job was to find campers who needed some company, or who stayed at one location and get them involved in other activities. During the last session, I was also a judge of the annual spirit week in which every activity will over something special to try and have as many kids as possible go to their activity.•Led a group of nineteen cabin leaders and 22 Junior Counselors for a group of 142 campers during two successive four-week camp sessions•Designed weekly unique special events and camper challenges co-led by other Assistant Heads•Contributed in helping an at-risk teen learn to swim and pass his white band test
