Analyst, Innovation Products

Rbc

Toronto, Canada Area

In this role, I was part of the Innovation Product team in Technology and Operations at RBC. Our team was focused on developing go to market products and proof of concepts that challenge existing processes and business models. I worked with teams across the Enterprise to design new products all the way from initial strategy and assessment through to development and launch into production. Our team focused on a variety of emerging technologies, with a particular emphasis on AI, machine learning and UX/UI design. My role had a few key functions. The primary purpose was to ensure that the products we design and develop align with the strategic priorities of our business partners. I'm extremely client focused, and I worked with all of our lines of business to ensure that we were building with the end user in mind. My previous experience researching topics in Innovation gave me the necessary expertise to bridge the gap between technology and business.I served as a product owner for several projects, working directly with our development team. Some of our projects are built entirely internally, while others involved us working with emerging startups or vendors to bring their technology to RBC.

Analyst - Research & Knowledge Creation

Rbc

Toronto, Canada Area

In this role I was a Business Analyst for the Research & Knowledge Creation team, which is part of the larger T&O Innovation team. My role consisted primarily of two different activities, the first of which is supporting our Innovation Product team. That included conducting initial research, assessing possible solution alternatives (both internal and external) and ensuring the products we develop align with the stated objectives of our business partners. Stakeholder management is a key aspect of this process, as we work with teams across the Enterprise. My other primarily responsibility was to handle the Knowledge Creation mandate for the Innovation team. In this role, I published research and write thought leadership and opinion pieces on behalf of the Innovation team. I worked to build an Enterprise wide technology literacy, with a specific focus on AI (particularly machine learning and natural language processing), blockchain, UX/UI and biometrics. I also curated our Research and Knowledge Creation community on RBC Connect.

Jan 2016 - May 2017

Social Business Analyst (Co-Op)

Rbc

Toronto, Canada

As part of RBC's Innovation team, I worked in a new area called Research and Knowledge Creation. In this role I focused primarily on machine learning and cyber security. I collaborated with Ontario universities and other researchers who are focused on machine learning and cyber security, and I aimed to find creative ways that their research could be leveraged by RBC. I worked with data scientists and business partners to identify pain points and work with our research partners to develop unique solutions using the latest technologies. Part of my role involved communicating and disseminating research with the rest of the enterprise. To do this, I've pursued a number of different communications mediums. I created a Research and Knowledge Creation hub on RBC's internal collaboration tool where experts from across the bank can share their research and discuss advances in technology relevant to all of RBC's lines of business. Doing this allowed us to find creative ways leverage new technologies. I also created a network of podcasts dedicated to topics in Innovation. These podcasts, which I co-host, provide a platform for some of RBC's brightest minds to discuss complex platforms and technologies in a way that is accessible and informative. By doing this, we've made it possible for more employees to stay informed about our commitment to Innovation and learn about why these technologies are relevant to us.The other part of my role is performing the reporting and data analysis for RBC's internal collaboration tool (RBC Connect), as well as contributing to building a wider enterprise strategy for the platform, which is powered by Jive. I spearheaded a redesign of our team's reporting process so that we can provide more insight and support to the rest of the bank.
