Jack Ventresca is a Financial Planning Associate at Rockwood Wealth Management. I met Jack in the Spring of 2021 when he pledged the Sigma Phi Lambda fraternity, of which I am one of the advisors. It has been a difficult couple years for college students. We had some brothers with defeatist attitudes about bringing in new members under these circumstances, and some were even angry about being robbed of "their time." Yet amid this uncertainty, four intrepid young men, determined to carve out a fuller college experience for themselves, decided to pledge a fraternity. Their positive attitude and dedication to the process impressed everyone and won over the nay-sayers. Also, last spring, Jack applied for and obtained a position as one of La Salle University's Student Ambassadors. Since this group serves as student representatives for the school at various functions, there is a highly selective process for choosing them. That they selected Jack is not at all surprising: my boy's got poise. He is a respectful listener but confident enough to speak when called on to do so. I have witnessed his savoir faire firsthand. Jack is on our Phive K Committee. Our signature philanthropic event is a 5K race ("the Sig Phive K") that raises money for the underprivileged, middle-school students of La Salle Academy. Not only did Jack find himself on this committee as a newbie, but also he was one of two members sent to a golf outing to update fraternity alumni on the committee's efforts and to do a little fund raising. Jack was quite comfortable in this role. Because of his versatility and reliability, Jack has been pegged as the Phive K Committee's next chair. Jack does not limit his participation to high profile positions like Ambassador or chair of the Phive K Committee. Jack is a team player – ever ready to fill any position in which he is needed. The pandemic has wreaked havoc on many of the fraternity's regular service activities, but we can still go out and pick up litter in La Salle's neighborhood. Jack is not afraid to get his hands dirty; he has participated in many a trash bash. Finally, while I do not have firsthand knowledge of Jack as a student, I do have access to his academic records. He is 11 credits ahead of a regular first-semester sophomore, and he has a 3.83 GPA. So, he is an excellent student on top of everything else. Jack is intelligent and dependable.
