I advise philanthropic individuals and families to help put their charitable vision in action for their communities. In addition, I work with nonprofit organizations to facilitate significant gifts that will provide long term financial strength for their missions. Private foundations, donor advised funds, and charitable trusts are some of the tools in my quiver. I also provide advice and strategies in the areas of governance, management, grantmaking, and gift planning for public charities and private foundations. With a focus on creating a customized strategy for each family, foundation, or organization I advise, I bring a mission-centric and inclusive approach.

  • Living Well Disability Services
    Chief Development Officer
Living Well Disability Services Apr 2012 - Aug 2015
The slogan, “Transforming Lives” builds on a rich legacy of service for individuals and families impacted by developmental and other disabilities. Reporting to the CEO, and providing regular reports to the Board of Directors, I managed the development and marketing efforts of this $20 million organization with over 550 employees and over 300 volunteers. Under my leadership, we successfully launched a new brand which increased our internal culture of philanthropy and positioned the organization well for further outreach and increased annual fundraising growth.
  • The Saint Paul Foundation
    Director Of Philanthropic Planning
The Saint Paul Foundation Jan 2005 - Mar 2012
I had the privilege of generating new business for the community foundations and the 35 affiliate funds of The Saint Paul and Minnesota Foundations. I worked with HNW families along side their legal advisors to design charitable plans that met their objectives, including 6-figure and 7-figure gifts established for charities throughout Minnesota. I supervised a team of 10, both centrally located and remote. Additionally, I worked with over 200 nonprofit organizations to strengthen their planned giving programs and build permanent endowments throughout Minnesota.
  • Children'S Home Society & Family Services
Vice President Of Development / Major Gift Officer
    Children'S Home Society & Family Services May 2001 - Dec 2004
    Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul Area
After successfully integrating the teams of two Development and Marketing departments through the merger, I cultivated relationships with board members, donors, and volunteers to continue to achieve increased fundraising goals, served as an active member of the Diversity and Inclusivity Task Force, and cultivated planned gifts and significant endowment gifts (five- and six-figure gifts) to ensure the long term health of this combined $22 million organization. I reported to the CEO, provided regular reports to the Board of Directors, and managed a team of 1-3 FTEs. Family Service, Inc. was a broad-based, social service non-profit with a $4 million annual budget that merged with Children’s Home Society of Minnesota in 2003, creating an organization with a combined $22 million budget that provided a broad array of complementary programming for children and families. Children’s Home Society later merged with Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota in 2012 to further expand adoption services and family support services throughout Minnesota. It is no longer a stand-alone organization.
