Assists with research investigating the winter roosting and movement ecology of Tree Swallows along the Gulf Coast. Identify, label, and record Tree Swallow roosts in Florida and Louisiana to analyze when Tree Swallows arrive and how weather affects the timing of their migration. Position is funded by grant.

Aided in fundraising, event planning and day-to-day operations of the Woodlands Conservancy. Developed a promotional video for the organization. Organized and led volunteer workdays and vegetation transect surveys. Also participated in mist net bird capture and banding.

Served as a student intern in HHS, Office of Grants and Acquisition Policy and Accountability in the Office of the Secretary. Worked closely with staff in the Division of Grants and in the Division of Acquisitions on grant policies and procedures, contract reviews and interdepartmental coordination. Responded to questions from the public, scheduled meetings and interviews, prepared briefing books, and assisted in developing PowerPoint presentations for the Director and senior staff. Given lead responsibility for revisions of public correspondence; this assignment involved convening and leading meetings, working with staff to ensure correspondence was in line with current policies, and making necessary revisions to documents. Attended HHS-wide and federal government-wide meetings and reported on them; also attended and reported on Congressional hearings of the U.S House of Representatives in which the Secretary of HHS and others experts testified on national issues. Compared various federal-wide cost principles and grants policy documents and consolidated findings into a working document for staff. Scheduled and attended interviews for staff positions and participated in the discussions of the interview panels. Also shadowed staff at the National Science Foundation which included attending meetings and observing a grants review panel. Created a Division-wide mission and vision diagram, solicited suggestions from colleagues, and then prepared a finished product that was ready production.
