I am a seasoned early childhood former educator, administrator, policy and leadership coach, and community partnership strategist with critical lenses for racial equity and social justice for young children and their families, with over 20 years of service. Through my consultancy, I am a team member at Kids First Chicago working to identify high quality early childhood from the perspective of the family. I also lend my expertise as a consultant for Illinois Action for Children. Through this partnership I coached the Illinois Birth to Five restructuring care and education work. I am an Adjunct supervisor for the Alternative Licensure program at Dominican University. Additionally, I support the innovative and on-going work to continue to elevate early childhood care and education in North Chicago and was recently named to the board of the Elgin Partnership for Early Learning. I am the former director of the Early Development Instrument (EDI) of the Policy and Leadership department at Erikson Institute, and as a consultant, I recently co-designed the Framework for Data Literacy. This framework was based on my work with communities across the state, nationally, and internationally and the EDI instrument. This work was centered around grassroots and grass-tops coming together in a movement; shifting data to actions to policy change and moving towards Data Justice. Preceding my work at Erikson, I expanded the scope of the Child Parent Center model as the manager of the program for Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Additionally, I supported and piloted the Social Impact Bonds program for the city of Chicago and co-created the Altgeld Riverdale transitions model. This model is a year round community centered practice inclusive of public and community based organizations. I recently contributed a chapter to the 2023 book titled: Transforming the Early Years Policy in the US- a call to action and still sit at policy tables across the state. I have cultivated a deep understanding and knowledge bank of skills that comes from a combination of my educational background, life experiences and application in the field. My focus areas/skills include: Early Childhood education, healthy equity and medical fragility in early childhood, special and multilingual education, curriculum design, racial equity, data equity/justice, professional development, public speaking, strategic planning, inquiry-based learning, social emotional learning, dramatic play, parent empowerment, Pre-K- Kindergarten Transitions, community coaching, and grant consultation.
