Principal Social Media Specialist
CurrentAs a member of the Office of Public Outreach, I am responsible for the overall implementation of the Space Telescope Science Institute's social media strategy as well as day-to-day planning, execution, and analysis related to NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and James Webb Space Telescope, as well as the upcoming Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. I manage STScI’s full suite of social media accounts with the goal of increasing awareness of the Institute and its NASA-related missions/programs, strengthening existing relationships, and building new relationships with key audiences.• Create and maintain a social media calendar as well as themed campaigns• Strategize to advance the reach for STScI through digital platforms• Manage the contributions of writers as well as create original content• Monitor conversations and trends, communicate with followers, respond to questions, and cultivate our communities of followers• Track all metrics associated with social media engagement and growth, and adjust strategies as needed• Report social media performance through analytics on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis• Monitor/listen to social media audiences and external stakeholders to establish and update lists of influencers, and engage with them as appropriate• Stay current with all social media industry developments and best practices• Identify and adapt to emerging trends in social media, including emerging platforms, new tools, and/or new types of content• Contribute to science-writing projects within the division• Coordinate with partners at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, NASA Headquarters, the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA), and other institutions• Advise STScI leadership and staff members on social media best practices, including guidelines on protecting privileged or confidential information
