I got my start in the marketing business before I knew I was actually marketing anything. My college weekend job was selling hot tubs out of a warehouse behind the highway for a family friend. I would answer in-bound telemarketing calls about the products with just one goal—get those callers to the warehouse to look at the spas. After just a few months of fine-tuning my 30 seconds sales pitch, buyers were flooding the place. A direct marketer was born. After graduating college in 2004, I found a job working as a Marketing Specialist at CMP Media in their Customer Management division. Marketing a diverse portfolio of events, membership, publications and research allowed me to get my feet wet in a number of different segments, and eventually led me to focus on event marketing. I was able to refine my marketing skills further by focusing solely on event marketing when I took a new position in 2008 at the Direct Marketing Association. For nearly four years I courted attendees and exhibitors to the DMA's expansive portfolio of events.In January of 2012, I left the Direct Marketing Association to return to my marketing roots and focus on small business marketing. I am exploring freelancing marketing positions with small businesses in the NYC and Bucks County/Greater Philadelphia area.
