As a social work student I was no stranger to skills and experiences related to the field since 2008, where I completed my first social work placement and work experience at Covenant House Toronto. While completing my Bachelors of Social Work degree at Ryerson University, I was exposed to a wide variety of opportunites, from co-founding my very own young women's empowerment group in Scarborough (I CAN Rise Above),to HIV prevention in Ghana, Africa, and then to pursuing my Masters of Social Work at The University of Edinburgh in Scotland. It has been an incredible journey so far!My employment (previous and present), volunteer opportunities, and experiences show that I am quick to learn and try new things outside of my comfort zone. When given projects or tasks I work efficiently to deliver the best results in accordance to the organization's standards and practices. I am assertive in seeking out other opportunities for growth and improvement. I connect well with people in both individual and group settings within different age groups. As well, I love to bring creativity to my work, through song, dance, writing, videography, blogging and more if it means making stronger connection with the people that I work with!I completed my Masters of Social Work program in Edinburgh, Scotland, in May 2017, and I'm currently residing in Toronto, Canada! I'm looking forward to bringing my learning and skills along with me towards the next part of my journey! As well as bringing my two greatest passions, social work and writing, together ! I currently work full-time as a Clinical Administrator at Diversity Midwives, and part-time as an Usher at the Ed Mirvish Theatre - both located in Toronto, Ontario. Co-Founder And Volunteer CoordinatorI Can Rise Above Inc. Sep 2010 - Aug 2014Toronto, Canada AreaI CAN Rise Above Inc., a young women empowerment initiative, is a program that is meant to inform, inspire and involve young women in the Toronto area to become active citizens in their communities. It all started when Karen Mckenzie, a fellow student in my Bachelors of Social Work program at Ryerson was connected to me about helping her in creating the first I CAN Rise Above Inc. conference. Together, along with a conference committee, we not only created a conference, but created a movement for young women to confidently say that they could "Rise Above" any obstacle. During the conference my role was Volunteer Coordinator and Day Program Overseer, delegating roles to volunteers and making sure the day ran as smoothly as possible for the young women attendees, keynotes, performers and workshop facilitators. Over the summer, Karen and I conducted programming for young women in at-risk areas in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. We facilitated workshops that helped young women create events about issues of awareness in their communities.
