I always thought copywriting was my calling... Then one day I was introduced to the field of technical writing. Sure, copywriting is a great profession. But for me it feels impersonal. With technical writing, I am able to help people have a better understanding of the products we build and the services we offer. In turn, I am on the front lines of building our company's image. I love the aspect of teamwork involved in technical writing. I get to work with a lot of different minds on projects. Being able to bring people from all different departments and ways of thinking together to work toward a common goal is challenging in the best way. It's very rewarding to pull everyone together and accomplish a task like writing a new manual or developing a new ordering guide. I love being figuring out how products work and developing systems to explain them. Technical writing is fun because I can use all different kinds of medium to complete tasks. I may be writing a video script one day, and developing a troubleshooting guide for a product the next. I also appreciate the consistency of technical writing. During my time at Power-Pole I have developed a system for properly documenting all of my department's work. I have developed a specific format that all of our instructions and manuals follow.Technical writing has been a great career path. I look forward to expanding my skills in the coming years.
